There is nothing worse for me than to find someones system infected beyond recovery, a restore gone bad or a hardware failure and see priceless unreplaceable files and pictures lost forever.
The Windows OS comes with a backup utility.
USB Flash drives can store your data.
Optical discs can keep your data and a complete copy copy of your system - Disc Image.
If some of your data or files are important - keep 3 copies.
If they simply cannot be lost - keep 5 copies!
